The Power of Play: The Art of Playful Work Design
At work, we face a wide range of activities. We deal with deadlines, large projects, meetings, emotionally demanding tasks, and conflicts that arise. We often take the work activities as “given”. Sometimes, we forget that we possess the power to reinvent ourselves and our work. In this workshop, Yuri Scharp will help us explore how and when the proactive integration of play with work activities, i.e., playful work design, can benefit individuals and organizations by promoting work engagement and performance outcomes. Bio:
Yuri S. Scharp is an assistant professor at the Human Resource Studies department of Tilburg University and a post-doctoral researcher at Organizational Dynamics in a Digital Society department at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Driven by a strong interest in why individuals thrive, Yuri became particularly interested in the function of play(fulness). He conceptualized playful work design, developed its measurement, and conducted various studies on the effects of playful work design.
