Sailing Weekend | Friesland

The sailing weekends are back again! This year we reserved two weekends to sail in the lovely north of the Netherlands, one in Spring (this one) and one in Summer (end of August)!

What is it?

The Gudsekop is a historic Friesian flatbottom boat called a "Skûtsje", built in 1908. During the trip, the ‘Schipper en Maat’ will show us the ropes of sailing.
We will stay on the boat the whole weekend and you should know: it will be back to basic! So, expect a weekend sleeping on a mat all together in the ships hold, eating simple but good food, being outside a lot, no electricity, a lot of silence since there is no motor, the pretty Friesian countriside, and having a loooong hot shower when you are home ;)

To get an impression of the boat and its facilities, we recommend you to check out the webpage of the Gudsekop: https://www.gudsekop.nl/, and especially the practical information page, which gives an overview of the facilities on board, and contains pictures of the inside and outside of the boat: https://www.gudsekop.nl/praktische-informatie/. Both pages are in Dutch, but Copilot does a pretty good job of translating 🙂

The logistics
The Gudsekop is moored in marina "Tusken de Marren", a 20 minute walk from Akkrum's train station. The boat will depart the Saturday of the weekend at 10:00 sharp. While it is possible to arrive Saturday morning, we recommend to already arrive the evening before. From 21:00 onward, the boat is available to us and you can spend the night on it from Friday to Saturday. On Saturday and Sunday, we will sail the Friesian lakes (depending on the weather, we will make a larger or shorter tour). Sunday afternoon, we will be back at Akkrum. Considering transport to Akkrum: we will figure this out based on whether we have some cars or just by train (Akkrum has a train station).

Food & drink

Groceries for the food during the trip (breakfast/lunch on Saturday and Sunday, dinner on Saturday) should be arranged yourselves. Before the trip, a whatsapp group with participants and the Skipper will be created, which can be used to align food options and groceries. Akkrum has a local supermarket that is open until 21:00 on Fridays and opens at 08:00 on Saturdays.

The boat is equipped with a gas stove, pots and pans, and utensils to cook with, but has no electricity, so no fridge available to store perishables for longer.

How much:
The weekend will cost 75 euros including food, stay and boat trip. Transport to the boat is at own-cost (see above).
